Launching a New Era: NRT Arabic's First Broadcast
The mission was nothing short of ambitious: to establish an independent news channel that would deliver comprehensive coverage grounded in impartiality. The primary objective was to develop live news bulletins, political talk shows, and socially relevant programming, all while emphasizing neutrality in a media landscape increasingly characterized by polarization.

In leading the programs department from its inception, the role demanded meticulous planning and strategic foresight. Crafting both live and pre-recorded shows required not only a clear vision but also a keen understanding of audience engagement. As the Programs Director, I was responsible for defining editorial objectives, ensuring alignment with the channel’s overarching mission, and fostering a collaborative environment among a diverse team of presenters, producers, and correspondents. With over 35 reporters stationed across Iraq and in key cities worldwide—such as Washington, London, Berlin, Quebec, Cairo, and Moscow—the goal was to create a global newsroom that reflected the complexities of the geopolitical landscape.

The challenges encountered were formidable, particularly against the backdrop of the ongoing conflict with ISIS, where much of our coverage focused on front-line reporting. Building a highly skilled team in such an environment required not only careful selection but also decisive leadership. A month before our scheduled launch, the sudden resignation of the technical director posed an unexpected hurdle, necessitating immediate action. This situation demanded my direct oversight of the studio setup to ensure visual consistency and branding, as well as the training of reporters in innovative technologies like Streambox—an essential tool for live streaming that was revolutionizing our broadcast capabilities.

My responsibilities as Programs Director extended beyond management; they encompassed the curation of content that resonated with our audience while adhering to the highest journalistic standards. This involved developing a strategic content calendar that accounted for the dynamic nature of breaking news, as well as coordinating closely with various departments—especially broadcast operations—to ensure seamless execution of programming. The ability to adapt in real time while managing evolving news cycles was critical, requiring a balance of creative intuition and analytical rigor.

The role also called for a nuanced understanding of the political and security landscape, essential for the strategic planning of daily program content. Crafting sensitive narratives with integrity and precision was paramount, as was the foresight to guide teams through complex scenarios, all while maintaining a commitment to delivering reliable and balanced reporting. Each decision made was shaped by the urgency of our mission—to inform and engage the public amid a turbulent backdrop.

In navigating the complexities of media production, I fostered a culture of innovation and collaboration. Regular brainstorming sessions with the team facilitated the continuous evolution of our programming strategy, ensuring that we remained agile and responsive to the shifting demands of our audience. By introducing data-driven insights into our decision-making processes, we were able to tailor content that not only met immediate viewer needs but also contributed to long-term audience loyalty and trust.

Ultimately, the establishment of this independent news channel marked a significant contribution to the media landscape, championing the values of transparency, accountability, and social responsibility in journalism. Through a steadfast commitment to high-quality content and impartial reporting, we aimed to not only inform but also inspire dialogue and understanding within a diverse audience.
